Arcstar Global ATM Service |
 |
Arcstar Global ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is a cost-effective and reliable solution for multi-services applications that demand medium to high bandwidth on a single network. ATM technology allows efficient share of resources amongst data of different requirements and tolerance on network performance. Batch-mode data like file transfer and delay-sensitive data like voice and video can simultaneously be carried over the network with appropriate prioritization.
ATM supports multiple logical links (virtual circuits) on a single physical access port. Each logical link carries a specific class of data. This simplifies design and operation of networks that require multi-point communication.
Arcstar Global ATM offers a number of service categories, including CBR, VBR and UBR.
| Service Category | Description | Applications |
CBR
Constant Bit Rate |
Provides constant bandwidth for real-time applications, comparable to leased line service |
Voice, leased line emulation, video |
VBR-nrt
Variable Bit Rate (non real time) |
Provides variable bandwidth for "bursty", non-real-time applications , comparable to Frame Relay service |
LAN interconnection, FTP, E-mail and Internet |
UBR
Unspecified Bit Rate |
Provides 'best-effort' type service for non-critical applications. Data is exchanged at an unspecified bit rate, whenever bandwidth is free. |
Store and forward networks, messaging, text, data, image transfer |
